Nawaz asks media to work for supremacy of Constitution

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Wednesday said that media being the forth pillar of the state should play its role for supremacy of the constitution, strengthening of democracy and welfare of the country.
Talking to a delegation of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) in Islamabad, he said the government greatly values the freedom of press but this should be exercised in a responsible and constructive way to achieve the national targets and objectives.
The members of the journalist organisations lauded the efforts of the Prime Minister for political reconciliation, national solidarity and development in the country. They also appraised him of the problems being faced by the print media. PM assured the delegation of full cooperation to resolve these problems at the earliest.
Later, Nawaz chaired a high-level meeting on rail and road connectivity at the PM House. He was briefed about Karachi-Lahore Dedicated Freight Corridor and the interest expressed by some foreign investors in this project along with road connectivity between Gwadar and Termez which would connect Central Asia with warm waters through Gwadar Deep Sea Port. He was also updated on the status of ongoing motorway and expressway projects, including those that are part of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
PM said that the government has allocated historic funds for construction of highways and motorways in PSDP across the country showing an increase of 154% since 2013 which clearly manifests the importance being attached by the government to connectivity. He was informed that existing length of motorways in the country is 690 km which would nearly double in the next three years. Planning work on these projects has already been completed.
Meeting was attended by Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Secretary Communications and DG FWO along with other senior government officials.In another meeting, Governor Punjab Rafique Rajwana also called on PM and discussed situation in Punjab. They also discussed development project underway in south Punjab.PM urged the governor to pay special attention to problems being faced by the people in the province with particular focused on south Punjab.
